Description
If you dig into the history of J. Dilla's endless list of
production contributions to the hip-hop culture, you will surely
notice that one of the first artists on record to have worked with
the legendary late producer was none other than Busta Rhymes.
Tracing back to 1996, Dilla produced three cuts for Busta Bus --
two off Busta's debut record The Coming and the "Woo Haa" (Dilla
Bounce remix).
Dilla was one of Busta's personal favorite producers, so when James Yancey tragically passed away in 2006, Busta waited for a time he felt he could respectively pay tribute to Jay Dee and his legendary production. Often called "your favorite producer's favorite producer", Dilla helped create and solidify the neo-soul inspired art of hip-hop production by looping soulful samples in with his incredible knack for layering intricate beats. When Dilla passed, he left Busta with some goodies...
"He left so much incredible music behind with me personally," Busta revealed in a SOHH interview. "It's almost like he knew I was a vessel for him, and would able to continue to champion his movement. What Dilla did was something that could not be duplicated. He was a one of one. There is no other way to sum it up."
With that, Mick Boogie (The Commissioner, and in this case, The Instigator), Busta Rhymes and J. Dilla's mother, Ms. Yancey aka. Mama Dukes collaborate to carry on Dilla's legacy for hip-hop, comprising this exclusive new CD that we're sure you'll feel is one of the best albums of 2007. With nothing but Busta Rhymes on the mic (with the exception of a handful of special guests, including some of Dilla's longtime supporters and friends) and Dilla behind the boards, this is Dillagence.
This amazing CD is one of the best we've honestly heard in YEARS. This is Instant Vintage. Anyone surprised?
