It's been a long time coming, but Brooklyn born super-emcee Talib Kweli is finally on his own label (Blacksmith Music) and ready to make his own destiny in this hip-hop game. One of hip-hop's most talented emcees, The BKMC hasn't released an album since his sophomore effort in 2004, 'The Beautiful Struggle.' After a series of label woes and industry setbacks for Kweli, he released a round of mixtapes and took to the independent scene to have his voice heard the way he wanted it to be. But finally Talib Kweli has his own label and Blacksmith Music is housing his third solo album in his discography, 'Ear Drum.' Of the title, Kweli says "The image of the ear and of the drum, which are powerful enough by themselves, but put them together and it's an instrument in your body that helps you hear," Kweli says of the album's title. "They're also two very simple, yet powerful words. I wanted to focus on finding a sound that makes you move, and that's where the word eardrum popped in my head." (XXL) The guest list for 'Ear Drum' includes Jean Grae, UGK, Norah Jones, Raheem DeVaughn, and others, while producers include former Reflection Eternal collaborator Hi-Tek, as well as Kanye West, will.i.am, Kwamé, Just Blaze and 'Liberation'-collaborator Madlib.
